Montgenèvre is investing around €30 million in its ski lift infrastructure ahead of the 2026/27 winter season – the largest investment in its history.
A new gondola in the Chalvet sector will improve access to the mid-mountain and provide a more comfortable journey for skiers.
It will replace the existing lift, linking the resort at approximately 1850m with the upper station at 2135m and will cut travel time in half.

New Fournéous gondola to highest point
From the mid-station, the Fournéous gondola will replace the existing Chalvet chairlift and Trois Fournéous drag lift with a new gondola, providing access to one of the resort’s higher points, at 2575m – and in just one-third of the previous time.
Unusually, the gondola is equipped with Doppelmayr’s AURO system, which allows driverless operation – a first in the Southern Alps. Staff remain at the station to welcome skiers.
Both new gondolas are expected to open for the Christmas holidays, subject to the completion of the works.
The project forms part of a major modernisation programme designed to improve the skiing experience and update the infrastructure serving this popular French-Italian ski destination within the Via Lattea (aka Milky Way) ski area.
Further improvements on the Italian side are also planned, including a new connection to Montgenèvre from the upper Rocher de l’Aigle area.
